I believe there may be a useful generalization of the terms of the human dilemma: Fear, in its diverse forms, subtle or overt, is the sole agent of personal tension; which is the single barrier to the ecstasy constantly default to our nervous system, the beauty we may ever perceive in every experience, and the love which is our embrace of such.... Fear is the only limit to our enjoyment and love. Therefore, courage is the key.
By fear, I do not mean the emotion only, but a fragmentation or conflict of consciousness, the resolution of which is courage. Obviously, this integration or resolution of consciousness or of "self" is the exact aim of much philosophy and mysticism. It is unitive consciousness--a concentration or one-pointedness of mind.
