A Nutrient Database & Daily Diet Calculator

If people let government decide what foods and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny.

THOMAS JEFFERSON

I wrote a program to consolidate the U.S.D.A. Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Release 13, into text files importable to Excel, imported them, and constructed a database that will allow you to set up a daily diet with nutrient sums as percentages of the R.D.A., or perform other nutritional analyses.  It contains over 100 details on each of almost 52,000 food items, and includes an example diet employing dietary endocrinology ("The Zone" of Dr. Barry Sears) and basic instructions for setting up a diet in the spreadsheet.

Currently in progress and under research by myself is a solution for the relatively common condition whose symptoms are called "colitis", or, more generally, "irritable bowel syndrome".  While doctors consider it medically unexplained and incurable, they accept money from a good portion of our country's population for expensive "treatments" (so-called).  I have experimented with the long-employed Specific Carbohydrate Diet popularized by Elaine Gottschall; the food intolerance diet of DeLamar Gibbons, M.D.; et al. to my detriment.  I have found much relief from following an intended modern-equivalent of the Paleolithic Diet (excluding acidic, alcoholic, allergenic, sweet and spicy foods, as well as caffeine and dairy) among other things.  See my Ulcerative Colitis page for more details.

If you benefit from this utility at all or would like to see more progress in such projects, please consider contacting me/supporting my projects.
